• A Passion For Red

With ten original songs and some oldies you love, wrapped up in a unique futro (futuristic-retro) design, A Passion For Red is powerful new musical that will blow your mind! This dynamic cast of fourteen triple threats will unveil A Passion For Red on the Restoration Center stage May 4 –7, 2006. These particular shows will work in association with the Children’s Services Foundation to create awareness of domestic violence and help the Highlands County Safe House, a shelter for battered women, to reach their operational budget.

A Passion For Red is a modern retelling of the story of Rahab representing women’s courage and struggle for independence. Rahab, like so many other women, was a prisoner to an immoral ethnic lifestyle in a time of war. She suffered domestic violence and abuse and public humiliation as she was led by her cultural bondage into a life of prostitution. It may be easy in our perfect “American Dream” lives to sit back and judge a woman like this but how many of us take the time to hear the story of her background. Rahab is noted in the Bible among the heroes of faith. She had courage that enabled her to risk her life to save her family from destruction. Her bravery landed her in the lineage of Jesus Christ as her colorful past was erased through her marriage, outside of her race, to Salmon the Israelite.

This story has such a tender place in my heart. I have met so many women throughout my life who have suffered abuse to the point where their identity is completely stripped away. They find themselves doing things they would never imagine because they are so broken and numb to everything. A Passion For Red was an inspiration to write because I was able to examine myself to see if I had mercy and love in my heart for those who are shunned by society. I found myself crying at times as my fingers hit the keyboard and I became overwhelmed with compassion. My purpose is that A Passion For Red will stir people to have forgiveness and respect for struggling women, be used as a tool in our community as a proponent of change and act as an artistic dedication toward the emancipation of abused women worldwide. I’d like to dedicate this work to my mother who was a victim of so much pain and abuse for her family and children and is now a survivor. I love you mother. You are a hero!
